Shopping List: What to Buy When You Bring Your Newborn Home – The Essentials
The purpose of this list is to help you navigate the enormous amount of suggestions coming from everywhere. When you bring home your first kid it’s sometimes hard to predict what you’ll actually need and what not, so the info below is gathered from dads who have already done this, and look at what they needed retrospectively:
FOOD
Formula (if you decide not to go with breast milk): Enfamil Newborn
Suggested for extra convenience: Enfamil nipples (slow flow)
DAIPER CHANGE
Diapers: Pampers Size N
Ointment: Aquaphor
Wipes: WaterWipes, no cent, no extra chemicals.
Destin (in case of diaper rush)
Suggested for extra convenience: Diaper Genie
SLEEP
Crib (This is what we bought)
(*note: Twins can be in the same crib for the first few weeks – until they start turning)
Sheets (2 sheets per crib is enough)
Swaddle Blankets
Suggested: Sleep Sack for night time sleep (helps with sleep training)
Calming wave sound
Note: Don’t be tempted to buy full crib bedding – it’s expensive, and not recommended by doctors until the babies are 1 year old.
CLOTHING
Onesies (I’d say three per baby)
Make sure you have friends – most common presents are clothing items.
NURSERY
Changing Table (This is what we bought)
Suggested: Nursery Chair
BATH TIME
Baby Bather
Wash Cloths
Towels
Soap (this was recommended by our pediatrician)
Body Lotion
